Michael Craig, PE

Home Michael Craig, PE

Michael Craig, P.E. has over 26 years of experience in bridge inspection, evaluation, load rating, repair, and asset management for complex transportation structures throughout the United States. Prior to joining Strinteg, Michael spent 17 years with WSP, a global engineering firm, where he led and supported large-scale, multi-state bridge inspection, load rating, testing, and rehabilitation programs for state DOTs, municipalities, and transit agencies across the country.

During his career, Michael has inspected or supervised the inspection of over 10,000 bridges, completed approximately 4,000 bridge load ratings, performed or managed more than 200 load tests, and led the design or construction support for over 500 bridge repair and preservation projects. His experience spans routine, fracture-critical, underwater, and complex bridge inspections, including long-span cable-stayed bridges, segmental concrete box girders, steel trusses, curved steel girder systems, and movable and rail structures. Michael is widely recognized for his expertise in load posting avoidance strategies, integrating refined analysis, material testing, load testing, and targeted repairs to reduce unnecessary postings while maintaining public safety.

Michael has served in senior technical and project management roles on numerous high-profile and statewide contracts, including leadership roles on the Georgia cable-stayed bridge engineering services contracts, the Greenville (US-82) cable-stayed bridge inspection in Mississippi, statewide inspection and load rating programs in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas, and complex inspection and asset management efforts for municipal and transit clients. His work routinely includes the application of advanced inspection and testing methods such as rope access, UAS, ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, resistograph testing for timber structures, and structural health monitoring.

In addition to field and analytical expertise, Michael brings a strong management perspective developed through decades of delivering inspection and evaluation programs at scale. His approach emphasizes cohesive team structures, disciplined pre-planning, efficient staffing and access strategies, rigorous QA/QC procedures, and clear communication with owners. He has been actively involved in supporting DOT transitions to SNBI requirements and the implementation of BrR and BrM systems to strengthen data quality and long-term asset management decision-making.

At Strinteg, Michael serves as Senior Vice President – Southeast Bridge Inspection and Bridge Asset Management Director, where he leads the firm’s growth and technical strategy across the Southeast. In this role, he provides technical oversight, quality leadership, and strategic direction for inspection, load rating, rehabilitation, and preservation projects, while building and mentoring a high-performing team focused on delivering practical, defensible engineering solutions for aging infrastructure.
